Distances by Road

Map Showing Places in Distance Tables BelowMap Showing Places in Distance Tables Below

The tables below show the distances in miles by road between the places identified on the map above. The large table covers mainland Scotland, while smaller tables cover individual island groups. The table in the top right gives distances between four English cities, two of which are important ferry ports, and four Scottish cities. Using this in combination with the other tables allows a comprehensive set of road distances to be easily established.

For example: how far is it from Hull in England to Dunvegan on Skye? The "England & Scotland" table shows that Hull to Edinburgh is 246 miles; the "Scottish Mainland" table shows that Edinburgh to Kyle of Lochalsh is 201 miles; and the "Isle of Skye" table shows that Kyle to Dunvegan is 48 miles. The total journey via Edinburgh is thus 495 miles. If you prefer to work in kilometers, multiply the result by 1.61, giving 797km for the journey.
