The GHHT helps local people run traditional crofts as simple hostels, allowing visitors to share in the life and culture of the local community. The Trust supports four hostels, each in an idyllic position: Berneray on North Uist, Garenin on Lewis, Howmore on South Uist and Rhenigidale on North Harris. Each is looked after by a warden and has piped water and WCs. Beds, duvets, cooking equipment, stoves and cutlery are provided. Personal sleeping bags may be used. Camping is possible at some hostels. These 'distinctive hostels of destination' are open all year. Bednight fees for 2007: £9 for Adults, £5 for under 18s.
