Borvemor Cottages at Scarista, 9 Scarista, Isle of Harris,
HS3 3HX. Four traditional self catering cottages, all differing in
style, Borvemor Cottages occupy a superb location with direct access to a
glorious shell sand Atlantic beach which is enjoyable in all weathers. The
traditional Blackhouse sleeps 2 and was newly built from stone, wood and thatch
in 1993. It is luxuriously finished inside with a king-size bed in the main
bedroom, underfloor heating in the bathroom and a glass fronted coal fired
stove in living room which also has a cosy box bed off it. Vallay House
sleeps 5/6 and was reconstructed from what remained of 18th century Borvemor
House. It is fully modernised and has three bedrooms. The lounge is next to the

patio. The Byre and Stable cottages, sleeping 6-11, were created from

Caberfeidh,

stunning 2.5 mile long beach on one side and the wild countryside of Harris on

Gatliff Hebridean Hostels Trust, 30 Francis Street, Stornoway,
Isle of Lewis, HS1 2ND. The GHHT helps local people run traditional
crofts as simple hostels, allowing visitors to share in the life and culture of
the local community. The Trust supports four hostels, each in an idyllic
position: Berneray on North Uist, Garenin on Lewis, Howmore on South Uist and
Rhenigidale on North Harris. Each is looked after by a warden and has piped
water and WCs. Beds, duvets, cooking equipment, stoves and cutlery are
provided. Personal sleeping bags may be used. Camping is possible at some
hostels. These 'distinctive hostels of destination' are open all year. Bednight
