"Look Out, Little Otter" written by Frances Stickley and illustrated by Jo Weaver, is a beautifully presented story book for young readers which follows the adventures of a baby otter who wants to see what is beyond their immediate environment.
Home is Little Otter’s safe place where Mummy is, but Little Otter thinks there must also be exciting new things out there, so goes off in pursuit of them. Little Otter meets lots of animals along the way including a Highland cow, a golden eagle, salmon in the river, a brave seal, a minke whale and more. Little Otter finds that having an adventure is exciting, until they suddenly arrive at the sea. What if Little Otter has gone too far and can’t find the way home? But Little Otter need not worry, as all the creatures who have befriended Little Otter along the way help them get back home. And all is well that ends well when Little Otter arrives home and can curl up with Mummy and feel safe again.
The melodic and calming pace of "Look Out, Little Otter" has proved to be the perfect bedtime story for our young reader and one he has returned to time and time again. Maybe it’s the adventure that enthrals, but maybe its that at nighttime Little Otter, like our little one, gets to curl up safely next to Mummy again.
