Dunbar Wee Festival of Words Dunbars Wee Festival of
Words offers a magical festival experience full of poetry, prose and song. From
the Dunbar Writers and Dunbar Choir; to the Appletree Writers; Alex Cornish;
Pete Lancaster; Alice Mitchell (and more!) and the Scottish Book Trust, there
will be something for everyone at the "wee festival of words". A packed
programme will include creative writing workshops and New Writer Awards.

Amazing Amber at the National Museum of Scotland The
UKs largest exhibition of amber, Amazing Amber, will contain over 320
objects, 75% of which have never previously been shown. Amber is
fossilised tree resin and the exhibition will explore how this fascinating
material was formed, how it has been used in history and how it is studied by
scientists to shed new light on the earths ancient past. Amazing Amber
coincides with the 20th anniversary of the release of the blockbuster film
Jurassic Park that featured a mosquito trapped in amber from which dinosaur DNA
was supposed to have been taken. Entry is free. Daily at National Museum of
Scotland, Chambers Street, Edinburgh.

Six
Designers in Search of Authenticity: University of Dundee Honorary Graduate
Lecture 2013 by Deyan Sudjic From the ex military parka to the restoration
of a vintage Bugatti, the provenance of a Warhol's Brillo box or the font used
by the Obama election campaign, designers, artists and architects strive for
the most elusive of qualities, authenticity. But what does authenticity mean in
the digital age, when design has turned into the most knowing of professions,
dedicated to faking the signs of authenticity as faithfully as possible? Deyan
Sudjic is one of this year's Honorary Graduates and Director of the Design
Museum in London. From 6pm to 7pm at Dalhousie Building, University of Dundee,

Exploration for Otters at Drumlanrig Castle Search the
waterways on the estate to search for signs of otter activity. With help from
the Ranger identify prints and spraints, and the entry to the water course,

SEALL presents National Theatre of Scotland: 'Calum's Road'
Calum's Road has become the stuff of modern folklore. It is the remarkable true
story of one man's single-minded determination to challenge the powers-that-be.
Based on Roger Hutchison's book of the same name, playwright David Harrower
offers audiences the richly detailed and unhurried description of a dying way
of life in Northern Raasay. At 8pm at The Stables at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig

Scottish Chamber Orchestra at Strathpeffer Pavilion The SCO
makes its popular annual visit to the Pavilion. At 8pm. Tickets £14 full

The Trott 2013 Pit your skills, strength and stamina in a
challenge on the unique Trotternish Ridge, one of the finest ridge traverses in
Britain. The longest challenges are a 36 km competitive run and a 36 km (22
miles) walk which are truly long events with much ascent and descent. There are
also a 21 km competitive run, a 21 km (12 miles) walk and a 12 km (8 miles)
walk - so there are challenges which cater for all abilities and tastes! The
Challenge is organised by the Isle of Skye Rotary Club as part of its programme

Romeo and Juliet at Bowhill House "Handlebards. Two young
people meet by chance and fall in love but their innocent union is threatened
by a bloody family feud. One of the most moving of Shakespeares plays,
this version told by 4 men using bicycles to travel to Bowhill and to power
surprises in the set, will be a bit different, full of fun, and ultimately
portraying the beauty, intimacy and fragility of young love.This performance

BBC Antiques Roadshow at Scone Palace The BBC Antiques
Roadshow will be holding one of its special Valuation Days at the Palace on the

Heavy Horse Show at the National Museum of Rural Life Get
up close to nearly 200 horses at one of Scotland's biggest heavy horse shows.
From Shetlands to Clydesdales, watch the horses compete in a range of classes.

SEALL presents 'Jazz on a Summer's Day' The Jazz
Ambassadors, part of the National Youth Jazz Orchestra of Scotland, will play a
short session, before the screening of 'Jazz on a Summer's Day' (1960, 85
minutes). This documentary, with a great sound track, is from the 1958 Newport
Jazz Festival in Rhode Island, filmed and directed by commercial and fashion
photographer Bert Stern and director Aram Avakian. The film mixes images of
water and the city with the performers and audience at the festival and
features scenes of the 1958 America's Cup yacht races. At 8pm at The Stables,

Edinburgh Jazz & Blues Festival There will be great

Fake Thackray - the songs of Jake Thackray by John Watterson at
The Sunart Centre During the late 1960s and early 1970s Jake Thackray's
satirical, witty, sentimental, hilarious songs brought him fame and extensive
television exposure as well as a string of top selling albums. John Watterson's
tribute to Jake is full of the warmth, humour and sincerity that you would
expect from a lifelong fan. John is a talented guitarist and vocalist with an

Treasure Island at Bowhill House "Cambridge Touring
Theatre. Set in the beautiful grounds of Bowhill, this musical version of a
family favourite tells the story of Jim and his pirate friend Ruth who find a
treasure map and set sail for magical Treasure Island. Along the way they learn
important lessons about friendship and wisdom and whether or not Long
John Silver is to be trusted! Children are encouraged to come in pirate fancy

Airshow at the National Museum of Flight Scotland's

Traquair Fair Two of the most iconic bands of the 1960s
The Animals and The Troggs - are set to headline at this year's Traquair
Fair. The bands will perform as part of a special Sixties theme for the
family-friendly weekend festival which is set in the grounds of Scotlands
oldest inhabited house. In addition to an impressive line-up of Sixties music,

of Books' is collaborative project inspired by Boswell and Johnson's 1773

Amazing Amber at the National Museum of Scotland The
UKs largest exhibition of amber, Amazing Amber, will contain over 320
objects, 75% of which have never previously been shown. Amber is
fossilised tree resin and the exhibition will explore how this fascinating
material was formed, how it has been used in history and how it is studied by
scientists to shed new light on the earths ancient past. Amazing Amber
coincides with the 20th anniversary of the release of the blockbuster film
Jurassic Park that featured a mosquito trapped in amber from which dinosaur DNA
