Contact the Visitor Centre for a free factsheet for visitors with mobility problems. Most of the Visitor Centre is fully accessible, but wheelchair users may require assistance in some areas.
Lanark lies a little to the east of the M74, south east of Glasgow and south west of Edinburgh and within an hour's drive of either. It is well signposted from the M74, the M8 and other main roads in the area. Click on the name to view a road map showing New Lanark's position in relation to the rest of Central Scotland.
If travelling by car, once in Lanark, follow the brown tourist signs, even if they seem to be taking you by an odd route. They aren't, it's simply that New Lanark was not located with the convenience of car drivers in mind. A more detailed map showing the location of New Lanark can be found here.
Day visitors without mobility difficulties should use the signposted car park above the village and descend using the excellent footpath. Disabled visitors may drive down to the village and park in the designated spaces provided outside the Visitor Centre.
For those travelling by rail, Lanark Railway Station is 1 mile away. There is an hourly bus service from the railway station and Tourist Information Centre to New Lanark.
