One look at the photo above tells you that The Three Sisters is a large pub. In reality it turns out to be even larger than it appears.

Externally the large cobbled courtyard on the south side of Cowgate is used for outdoor seating and events including BBQs in summer (though it is largely shaded from the sun). The building to the left of the courtyard forms the Tailors Hall Hotel.

The main entrance to the bars is at the far end of the courtyard. Here you are led through to a series of large bars. These disappear into vaulted cellars behind the frontage and include bars with Irish, US and Gothic themes. There is also a disco on the first floor.
The pub is named after three sisters said to have stayed here and performed at the Tailor's Hall which, though first built for the Tailors Guild in 1621, was at one time a theatre before being finally converted in 1998 to a hotel.
The Three Sisters is not perhaps the best place in Edinburgh for a quiet evening drink, especially at weekends when it is a fixture on the stag and hen party round, but it is both interesting and unique.
