The Scotsman's Lounge is found at the upper end of Cockburn Street not far from the junction with the High Street section of the Royal Mile.

The exterior is relatively plain. The interior is still more so: bare wood floors, sparse dark wood furnishings, and panels part way up the wall, and an overall finish that was probably rather lighter than it has become over the decades.

A simple description may not sound altogether appealing, but the Scotsman's Lounge sells itself not on looks but on atmosphere. There are many who have found their way into the pub only to emerge rather later than planned after an evening taking in the chat with locals and regulars. Live music takes place each evening, and the Scotsman's Lounge is very popular with lovers of bag pipe music: you might find a piper here at any time of day (though what one sounds like just after the pub's normal 6.00am opening is anyone's guess).
