![]() The Mitre Across the Royal Mile |
The Mitre is one of three pubs close together on the north side of the High Street section of Edinburgh's Royal Mile. The other two are the Royal Mile and Whiski.

In the summer you can, as with many of Edinburgh's pubs, sit outside and watch this particularly interesting part of the world go by. This is a more pleasant activity since the Mitre swapped a rather bright light blue colour scheme for its current more sober decor.

Inside the pub is rather larger than it seems from outside. The bar stretches back towards the rear of the building and you can usually find somewhere comfortable to sit. The streetplan hereabouts dates back to the 1500s, but it seems likely that the building housing the Mitre is rather more recent. Less easy to date is the ghost in the Mitre's cellar.
Food is available throughout the day. The Mitre is popular with local business people and, given its location on the Royal Mile, with visitors to the city.
