Finnegan's Wake
Finnegan's Wake

Finnegan's Wake is that rarity, an Irish theme pub that seems to be popular with Irish living in Edinburgh: and everyone else! So popular, in fact, that you can have to queue to get in during the evenings in University term time or during the Edinburgh Festival.

The outside of Finnegan's Wake comprises little more than a highly decorated doorway on the south side of Victoria Street. Inside you find a large central bar surrounded by acres of wood flooring - usually invisible beneath feet at night - and seating around the perimeter.

In one corner is a raised area used by the musicians who play here seven nights per week and help account for the popularity of the place. Folk, folk-rock, traditional and more, Finnegan's Wake is consistently held to be one of Edinburgh's best pubs in terms of atmosphere and character.
