The Burgh
The Burgh

Edinburgh's first non-smoking pub is by no means the easiest pub in the city to find. It is certainly not out of the way, being just about the closest pub to Princes Street: it's just that the street frontage comprises just the front door, the sign above which reveals why they needed a short name.

For those who know where to look, it is actually extremely convenient. Look for the McDonalds fast food restaurant near the east end of Princes Street, follow it around the corner into South St Andrews Street, and look for the door you find at the far end of the wrap-around bit of McDonalds.

It's tempting to wonder what might lie within such an unpromising exterior. Don't worry. Immediately you are through the front door the tardis effect cuts in and as you walk through, the Burgh broadens out into a large bar area with a dining area beyond it.
