This relatively new building (for the Old Town of Edinburgh) is home to a large comfortable pub divided into a number of discrete (and discreet!) areas by a range of wooden screens and high backed seating, much of which seems to have had an earlier life in other pubs, now presumably long gone.

The Advocate started life as the Fiscal & Firkin, before later becoming the Fiscal and only more recently has it been known as the Advocate, following a makeover that gave the exterior a rather more sober appearance in keeping with the stonework of the building.

A number of well kept real ales are on offer and there is a good choice of whiskies and wines available. Food is freshly prepared on the premises.
The Advocate is popular with those living and working in the area and well worth seeking out by anyone wandering along the Royal Mile, which is less than a hundred yards away.
