The list below is of events due to take place across the
Undiscovered Scotland Area. If you know of an event that ought to be listed

- 26 September - 1 March 2009:
Maritime
Anstruther The exhibition draws on a fascinating collection of items
relating to Anstruther's maritime past held by the Museum - many of which
haven't been on show to the public for a number of years. Monday to Saturday
from 10am to 4.30pm and Sunday from Noon to 4.30pm. Admission free with museum
entry.
- 1 November - 3 January 2009:
Winter
Warmth at Callendar House Winter Warmth returns with an exhibition to mark
the 500th anniversary of print in Scotland. The exhibition will be showcasing
the diverse aspects of contemporary print-making and the use of printing in
applied arts and crafts. All work is for sale and available to take away. At
The Park Gallery & Large Gallery, Callendar House, Falkirk. Free Admission.
Callendar House open Monday to Saturday: 10am to 5pm; Last admissions: 4pm.

- 16 November - 11 January:
Winterfest
Glasgow 2008 Includes Glasgow's Christmas lights, Glasgow on Ice, Family
fun days, Santa Dash, the Irn Bru Carnival, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour
Dreamcoat, the Royal Scottish National Orchestra on The Big Stage and Glasgow's
Hogmanay. George Square, Glasgow and the SECC.
- 21 November - 14 December:
Winter
Opening at Scone Palace The Palace will be open on Fridays, Saturdays and
Sundays only over these dates. Daily 11am to 4pm. Adults £8, Children
£5, Concessions £7,Families £24. Scone Palace, Perth.
- 27 November - 4 January 2009:
Edinburgh's
Christmas A treat for all the family including Edinburgh's Christmas Winter
Wonderland, the Edinburgh Wheel and Christmas Carousel, as well as the hugely
popular Traditional German Christmas and Highland Village Christmas
Markets.
- 3 December:
Old
Blind Dogs at Strathpeffer Pavilion One of Scotland's top traditional
bands, twice (including last year) Folk Band of the Year in the Scots Trad
Music Awards. OBD "continue to treat the tradition with respect ... but not too
much respect!" From 8pm. Tickets £12.50 (16s and under £5) from the
Pavilion office, June's Card Shop Dingwall and on-line from
The Booth.
- 4 December:
Phil
and Aly at Strathpeffer Pavilion Scotland's favourite traditional duo
return to one of their favourite venues! From 8pm. Tickets £19 (16s and
under £7). Joint tickets with Old Blind Dogs event also available at a
special price of £29 for one ticket for each night - a saving of
£2.50.
- 5-7 December:
Collectormania
Glasgow a Christmas fair with a twist, where shoppers can mingle with the
stars of film and TV as they browse for fun and unusual gifts! Standard entry
to the event costs just £5 (£3 for kids) from 11am on either day or
9am Friday. Early entry from 9 am on Saturday or 10am on Sunday is just
£10. Entry also includes 1 free autograph worth £10 (available on a
first come-first served basis, whilst stocks last). Braehead Arena,
Glasgow.
- 5-7 December: Contemporary Art from Scotland in aid of
Clic Sargent - Caring for Children and
Young People with Cancer. Featuring work by Elaine Allison, Patricia Bray,
Miriam Drysdale and Moira Morrison plus guest artists Alistair Burt, Kate
Downie, Helen Glassford, Claire Harkess, Rachel Hazell, Gilly Langton, Marian
Leven, Susan McGill, Osvaldo Paesano and Dot Sim. To be held at 6 Regent
Terrace, Edinburgh EH76BN. Friday 6pm to 8.30pm, Saturday Noon to 6pm and
Sunday Noon to 5pm.
- 6 & 7 December:
Santa
weekend at Scone Palace Santa will be receiving his guests on both days,
and visitors will be entertained with live music. On Sunday the Cairngorm
Reindeer, always popular with adults and children alike, will be coming south
to help Scone's very own Santa with his Christmas duties. There will also be a
'Highland Hog Roast'. Scone Palace, Perth.
- 6 & 7, 13 & 14, 20 & 21 and 22, 23 & 24 December:
Santa at
Almond Valley, Livingston Meet Santa, receive an early Christmas present,
join in Christmas crafts and enjoy the magic of a traditional Christmas.
- 6, 13 & 20 December:
Victorian
Christmas Children's Workshop at Callendar House Experience a Victorian
Christmas at Callendar House by dressing up, visiting the kitchen, helping the
busy cook prepare food and make a special decoration for our tree. Listen to
the Night Before Christmas read in festive surroundings and decorate your own
Christmas stocking to take home. At 11am and 2pm (each session lasts 1hr
30mins). This is a free family event. Advance booking essential on 01324

- 7 December:
Aberdeen
Beach Clean up Organised by The Marine Conservation Society volunteers,
Aberdeen Beach Clean up will take place from 2pm at the North end of City Beach
(and possibly further afield depending on numbers). As a consequence of local
volunteer efforts, Aberdeen is one of the UK's most actively adopted coastal
areas; so why not come and help keep it that way? No previous experience is
necessary. Children under 17 must be supervised by a legally responsible
guardian. Please remember to bring warm clothes, especially boots/shoes

- 7, 14, 21 and 28 December:
Jazz
at Lunchtime - Scenic Scotland Ian Millar (saxophone) and Dominic Spencer
(piano) perform classic jazz standards and melodic originals with an inspiring
video backdrop of beautiful Scottish scenery. 12.30pm to 2.30pm. The venue is
an intimate, comfortable, candle-lit cellar bar with a jazz club
atmosphere. A lunch menu is available. Table service is provided.

- 12-14 December:
The
Enchanted Glen Taking place at the Glen Tanar Estate on Royal Deeside, is
the spectacular Enchanted Glen sound and light show. With a Winter Wonderland
theme, the event will include additional free daytime activities for all ages
available in and around nearby Aboyne, including a visit from the Cairngorm
Reindeer herd. Tickets - priced £9.50 for adults, £5.50 for
4-16-year-olds and £1 for under fours (plus booking fee) will not

Christmas
Fair and Foal Show at the National Museum of Rural Life Festive farm fun!
Enjoy the annual foal show, join in the Christmas craft workshops, watch
demonstrations and even give your wish to Santa. From 10am to 5pm at National
Museum of Rural Life, Wester Kittochside, Phillipshill Road, East Kilbride.
Adults £6, Children £5 (under 12s free). Includes museum

Supersonic
Christmas at the National Museum of Flight Santa flies by East Fortune
Airfield for our special daily opening for Christmas. Why not meet the man in
person in his Jetstream plane? A truly unique experience for families and
groups. Make your Christmas outing extra special with a remarkable day out at

- 29 December 2008 - 3 January 2009:
Edinburgh's
Hogmanay The world's best New Year celebrations! Including the iconic
Torchlight Procession, the first ever Family Hoog, the Hogmanay Street Party
and Concert in the Gardens. See website for details and booking.
- 31 December:
Hogmanay
Dance at Strathpeffer Pavilion With music, as last year, by Selwyn Roberts
and friends. From 9pm to 1am. Tickets £18 (under 14s £11) have just
arrived at the Pavilion office - and we already have a waiting list, so don't
leave it too late to get yours!
- 31 December:
Oban
Hogmanay Homecoming Street Party Scotlands hottest bagrock sensation,
the Red Hot Chilli Pipers, will bring in the New Year at Obans Hogmanay
Homecoming Street Party from 9pm at the Tesco Car Park, Lochside St, Oban.
Joining them are last years headliners, Scottish band Skerryvore and
Obans answer to Take That, The Works plus the Oban Homecoming Gaelic
Choir. There will also be fireworks at midnight from McCaigs Tower.
Tickets are priced at £11.50 per adult and £6.50 per child aged
between five and twelve. Children under five go free.

Harvest at the National Museum of Rural Life This naturally, eco-friendly
and versatile material had been used for centuries to make utensils and in

- 9 & 10 May:
The CARE
3 Peaks Challenge Scotland The Challenge will see teams scaling Ben Tee
(904m), Ben Ledi (879m) and Ben Cruachan (1126m) all in the target time of 24
hours and is aimed at raising funds for CARE's work in over 70 countries, as
well as raising awareness of the impact of current conflicts on the world's
poorest people. The event tackles the theme of conflict from a historical and a
contemporary perspective, with themed mystery tasks adding to the challenge
along the way. Register your team

- 16 & 17 May:
Spirit
of the West Part of the year long Homecoming Scotland celebrations, Spirit
of the West is a ticketed two day event at Inveraray Castle which will be a
celebration of Scotland's west coast whisky and the rich culture and dramatic
scenery in which it is created.
- 17 May:
Etape
Caledonia An 81 mile cycle challenge taking place on traffic-free roads in
the stunning scenery of Highland Perthshire. This event is open to individuals
between the ages of 18 and 80. To ensure that the roads are reopened to the
schedule agreed with the authorities, participants will need to maintain an
average speed of 13-14 mph around the course. This gives at least 6h 15mins to
reach the finishing line within the closure window. Even if you are unable to
meet this average you can continue on open roads and complete the full circuit.
Spectators are welcome to come along and join in the fun and celebrations at
the finish line. 7am to 5pm around Pitlochry. Spectators Free, Participants
£54 Registration.
